Upright

The medicine went in and nothing changed. The patient is still upright, still moving, still here. Failed healing that somehow left something intact.

The medicine went in and nothing followed - no rally, no crisis, no change the chart can record. The failure is real; note it honestly. Then note the other fact: the patient is still here. Whatever is holding them upright owes nothing to the pharmacy - stubbornness, constitution, some private arrangement with their own bones. You have not healed them. They have not needed you to. Yet.

Inverted

Endurance is turning the corner that treatment could not. The fever that ignored every draught is breaking against something older - the body's own obstinate arithmetic - and the patient who would not respond is now simply recovering, on nobody's schedule. Take the lesson before you take the credit: what this one needed was time, and someone refusing to let them stop.

In Play

Upright. Nothing in Liss's kit moves the smith's fever - and the smith keeps sitting up anyway, arguing about it, refusing broth on principle.

Inverted. On the fourth day the fever breaks on its own - the smith outlasted it, and Liss's real contribution was refusing to let him give up.
