Upright

The Sage couldn't see you today. The knowledge is delayed, not denied. The appointment exists. Progress without result.

The door is closed today - not forever, and not against you. The sage cannot see you, the archive is sealed for the assize, the answer is postponed with apologies. Deferral is genuinely not denial: your standing survives, the question keeps, and the appointment exists. What you wanted today you will get later. The cost is every plan that needed it today.

Inverted

The postponement was a kindness wearing a clerk's face. Whatever kept you out of that room kept you out of more than boredom - the company you would have shared, the record of your attendance, the question you would have asked in front of the wrong listener. Later you will learn what the closed door excused you from. For now, the freed afternoon is yours - spend it on a different question.

In Play

Upright. The sage's man is apologetic: nothing before the new moon. Wynn's question keeps; her lodging bill does not.

Inverted. At the new moon Wynn learns why the archive was sealed - the assize was auditing its keeper, and every reader logged that week is now answering questions.
