Upright
Something let loose and made everything worse. The violence escalated past any useful point and kept going.
Whatever this was about, it is not about that anymore. The violence has slipped its purpose and started feeding: each blow justifying the next, bystanders becoming casualties, the original quarrel buried under everything broken since. Nothing here is being won. The only question with any meaning left is what will still be standing when it stops - and nothing guarantees you are on that list.
Inverted
Sometimes the fire burns past what anyone intended - including whoever lit it. The rampage wrecks the trap along with the room; the overwhelming force overcommits and cannot re-form; the disaster is so total that the old stalemate is simply gone. In the settling dust there is a gap that did not exist before. Move through it before the dust finishes settling.
In Play
Upright. Bryn's temper takes the tavern with it - the deal, the table, two friendships, and his name in this town, all in the space of one broken chair.
Inverted. The hired knives waiting in the yard rush the noise together - and Bryn's blind fury, ruinous to everything else, wrecks their ambush too. When it passes, the man who paid them is standing alone in the doorway.
